Lead Service Line Inventory Services
EPA’s Proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements
In 1986 Congress Amended the Safe Drinking Water Act, prohibiting the use of pipes, solder or flux that were not “lead free” in public water systems or plumbing in facilities providing water for human consumption. On November 30, 2023, the EPA announced the proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) to reduce lead in drinking water that can irreparably harm children and adults and disproportionately impacts those living in disadvantaged communities. The deadline for submitting an initial inventory to the state or primary agency is OCTOBER 16, 2024. EPA’s New Rule:
- Targets water that’s actually from the lead service lines, not just the faucet or premise plumbing
- Targets where the highest levels of lead exist to identify problems sooner
- Encourages more lead service line replacements and treatments to reduce lead
- Better protects public health
Our Process
CES is experienced in identifying lead pipe on both the UTILITY & PRIVATE side of the water meter. Our capabilities allow us to perform the necessary tests to identify pipe material quickly and quietly. All data collected is transferred electronically to GIS or another shared platform that can be used by all parties involved.
