Flow Monitoring is a complex, high technology undertaking that is part of a comprehensive sewer system evaluation survey. Flow monitoring is the process of analyzing the hydraulic characteristics of a sewer system. The purpose of flow monitoring is to supply data required to perform flow modeling tasks, quantify inflow/infiltration, and prioritize future inspection activities. Flow meters are installed within various basins or sub-basins to compare wet and dry weather flows. Rain gauges are installed to compare rainfall events to increases in flow quantities. Results are analyzed to determine inflow/infiltration quantities. Overflow sites can be monitored to determine how much wastewater escapes during system overloads.
